Jerry Pacheco Highlights Regional Growth and Global Trade Dynamics

Santa Teresa, NM – The Border Industrial Association, led by President Jerry Pacheco, welcomed members of the New Mexico State University Supply Chain Students Association for an insightful presentation and guided tour of the Santa Teresa industrial base.

Pacheco, a leading voice in border-region economic development, walked students through the dynamic growth of Santa Teresa’s logistics and manufacturing ecosystem. From its expanding intermodal and rail infrastructure to its growing list of global tenants, the region is playing a key role in reshaping New Mexico’s economic profile.

Key highlights included:

  • Foxconn Expansion: The electronics giant now operates over 2.7 million sq ft, producing tens of thousands of Dell computers daily.
  • Union Pacific Intermodal Hub: The largest in their network by volume, driving international trade and attracting anchor tenants.
  • Trade Growth Leadership: New Mexico now leads the U.S. in export growth, largely due to Doña Ana County's trade with Mexico.
  • Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) Advantage: Cost-effective warehousing, manufacturing, and re-exporting—making Santa Teresa a logistics magnet.
  • Diverse Manufacturing and Logistics Base: Companies from Taiwan, Germany, Turkey, Japan, and Mexico are actively investing in local industrial parks.
  • Future Development: Planned $5 billion high-tech park and desalinization projects to ensure sustainable water resources.

The visit offered students an on-the-ground view of supply chain strategy in action, demonstrating how logistics, manufacturing, and international policy converge in this critical region.

The trip was part of NMSU’s ongoing efforts to connect students with real-world industry experiences—an initiative supported by the university’s Supply Chain Center under the guidance of Dr. Victor Pimentel.
